When did you first become interested in glass?

I think I have always had an interest in glass. In fact I remember as a child going to an amusement park and standing mesmerized while watching a man form a little glass figurine on a torch. I then saw it again some years ago at a fair where a man was blowing glass. I had no idea that I could do it out of my home. I did some research and found out I could order a cheap torch kit and read everything I could get my hands on. I couldn’t wait to get started so I found out what I needed, ordered it and I haven’t looked back.

What do you like best about what you do?

I love it, to me its so relaxing like I am in my own little world. I unfortunately have a full time day job so once I get home I cant wait to get out to my studio. I have been fusing and lampworking for 3 years now and can say it's still exciting to open the kiln and see creations you have made the day before.

Is there a pattern in the way you select materials? In the way you use color, texture or light?

Spring Time Ring

Nope, I just go with what I like and what I think will look good together. I try to make a wide selection of color, size and shape. But since blue is my favorite color I tend to use it lot.

What inspires you? How are your inspirations expressed in your work?

I often look at pictures or just shapes of things and think how could I incorporate them into a piece of glass. Sometime I wake up in the middle of the night and have a great idea that I just cant wait to try. My mind is always pondering what I can make next.

How much time is spent creating your pieces?

Depends on the day but I spend anywhere from one to four hours a day on it.

What are your techniques and style and how do these relate to the medium?

My style? I guess, however I am feeling that day. I don’t think I really have a so-called "style" or if I do I wouldn’t know what to call it.

What do you find most challenging about your work in the glass arts?

The oh so many ways you can use glass and how you never know how its going to turn out. Sometimes you think you have made a great piece and once it comes out of the kiln it’s not as great as you thought.

How did you find Etsy? What do you like most about it?

I started thinking about selling my glass creations and was searching the Internet where I happened to stumble across Etsy. I love Etsy its so easy to use and is relatively inexpensive for someone just starting out. I also love the fact that it's for handmade items and is bringing artistry back. It’s also great to find a place with so many great people who share the same passion.
