When did you first become interested in glass?
Glass in every form, from bottles to beads, has always fascinated me but it wasn’t until about 1 ½ years ago that I started melting it myself. While browsing on Craigslist, I found a small kiln and decided it was time. My next purchase was some scrap glass on Ebay and my fusing adventure began.
What do you like best about what you do?
There are so many things, but I really enjoy combining colors and seeing how they’ve turned out when I open the kiln. There is something magic about that first peek. I have had a love affair with copper for a while and enjoy using it with my glass, from copper pipe to copper wire.
Is there a pattern in the way you select materials? In the way you use color, texture or light?
Not really, I just pick materials that are appealing to me. Being self taught, I am always experimenting and trying new techniques and combinations.
What inspires you? How are your inspirations expressed in your work?
Nature is probably my biggest inspiration. I love the swirls, colors and randomness of nature. I enjoy abstract with a touch of definition and structure. Much like my life.
How much time is spent creating your pieces?
Of course, that’s a hard question. It really depends on the design. Most of my glass pieces are fired at least 3 times before completion. When I am creating a jewelry piece, it is sometimes oxidized and tumble polished, so there are other steps. I am a mom and work full-time, so my creative time is limited.
What are your techniques and style and how do these relate to the medium?
I think my style is rather organic with the copper pipe, hammered and twisted copper and river rock. I am always looking for new items to incorporate into my designs and you just never know what will show up next.
What do you find most challenging about your work in the glass arts?
Time and resources are always a struggle for me. I would love to plunge full-time into glass, but it’s just not possible. So I will continue to juggle and enjoy the time I do have to create.
How did you find Etsy? What do you like most about it?
I found Etsy when I was looking for alternatives to Ebay. I really like the community feel of the site and, of course, the awesomely creative people here.

When did you first become interested in glass?
My obsession with glass beads began about five years ago when I took a weekend long lampwork bead making class as a birthday present to myself. I was instantly hooked on playing with molten glass and fascinated with the way colors and patterns were formed. That weekend class stretched into more than two years of classes from a fantastic bead maker, Heather Trimlett. After swearing up and down that I would never create a lampwork studio in my house (I already had way too many hobbies) here I am working at home every chance I get! Read more

When did you first become interested in glass?
I first really started noticing artisan glass when I was painting watercolors. I love the way both mediums are similar. It’s the light shining through the transparent colors and being able to layer colors to form new ones. Also, I enjoy being able to mix colors in both mediums, although it’s a lot tougher in glass. I wanted to be an artist from the ripe old age of six, when my original career choice of becoming a ballerina was struck from the list by a well-meaning teacher, who upon noticing my rather rotund figure and total lack of grace suggested I pursue tap-dancing rather than ballet. Read more

When did you first become interested in glass?
I first became interested in glass when I was a small child. My grandmother collected antique cranberry glass and when I went to visit I was in awe of all the pretty designs painted in the glass pieces. She collected bowls, plates, wine goblets and bud vases that were unusually shaped and had design elements you would not see on any glass you buy from a home décor store.
