EGA recently celebrated the birthday of member Lori who owns Etsy shop LORiOLA by holding a contest in the Etsy promotions forum. We asked forum participants to post an item from their shop as a VIRTUAL birthday present. We are please to announce that Lori picked burtonwood as the winner with her Knitted Acorn.
This is what Sandra, the owner of burtonwood shared with us about her ideas and her inspiration that tie into her unique fiber creations.
“It was just before Christmas three years ago that I attended a local craft bazaar. Amongst the cookies and tables of crafts sat a group of women demonstrating spinning. I was instantly drawn to what they were doing and stood for a long time asking questions and watching. I had never thought people did this for fun, I had only ever seen it in museums. Upon leaving I remarked to my friend, who managed to actually walk around to the other crafters that I wanted to spin my own yarn and I was going to learn. Until that moment I was a novice knitter, self taught, but unable to get inspired to learn new and different knitting patterns or stitches. I was stuck. Finding spinning and the world of fiber was truly the catalyst I needed to improve my skills and design original projects.”
“I love fiber. There are so many varieties and types to work with, and endless possibilities of things to do. Someone obsessed would never grow tired. Dyeing and felting are just two of the activities I really love, in addition to spinning and knitting. I joined that group of women, my local spinning guild, and since I have sat and demonstrated for others, and taught workshops to help spread the word of “Fiber Arts”.”
“Raised in southern New Jersey, I relocated to New Hampshire thirteen years ago for a change and to attend graduate school. Met my partner, Stephen, six years ago and bought a house on 25 acres of woods soon after. We enjoy the company of our Brittany, Jack and our cat, Thetis, although they do not tolerant each other well. Crafting is 100% of my passion, but I do work part time to supplement the cause of fiber, which has taken over the house. I also love to do pottery, and hope to make that more prominent in my life.”
“Finding Etsy through the help of the local yarn merchant was a real boon for me in 2007. I was glad to have an outlet for selling during the times of the year when the markets and shows are taking a break, and to have a community of artists and crafters as close as my laptop has been informative and inspirational. Eventually my business will be a full time venture, and will have a brick and mortar home.”

EGA recently celebrated the birthday of Jenny of infusionglassworks by holding a contest in the Etsy promotions forum. We asked forum participants to post an item from their shop as a VIRTUAL birthday present. We are please to announce the winner is KreatedbyKarina for her soap of the month club. ![]()
KreatedbyKarina is full of yummy soaps and lipbalms all handmade by owner Karina with natural ingredients and essential oils. Karina had the opportunity to take her first soap making class several years ago in England. How cool is that? While traveling with her husband on a business trip to the UK, Karina found herself with some extra time. She discovered a place near the hotel that offered a professional one day course in soap making. Karina continued her education back in the USA by taking several courses in Oregon and keeps up with the latest trends and techniques by continuously reading.
Karina gave us this insight to her inspiration for her shop, soaps and lipbalms. “It’s amazing what a certain scent can make you remember and feel. Lemon zing makes you refreshed…peppermint make you alert. Warm and spicy scents bring an aura of comfort. I love working with new scents. As soon as I get in a shipment of new oils I tear open the box and immediately open each one to get a full wiff of the essence of what I will be working with. I write down what it reminds me of…how it makes me feel. It’s from there I can take the next step and use the scent properly to invoke those same feelings and memories in you. I want to capture a moment of life in every single bar.”
Check out KreatedbyKarina for a yummy indulgence for your skin and senses! You can check out Karina’s blog at kbyk.blogspot.com

This is what Kika, the owner of candyragz had to tell us about herself and her shop. “candyragz evolved from my love to create and make gifts for the people I love. candyragz creations are reflective upon the value of wholesome friendships and making someone feel special. Through my artwork and designs, and collection of vintage products of all sorts, candyragz continues with sharing love and care for others. Most of my items are “one of a kind”, as I most love the challenge of creating somthing new and unique each time. I think one of the sweetest things in our day to day lives is receiving a hand made card like the one featured “Make a Wish”, what a perfect way to make someone feel so special and loved! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.”
Check out candyragz for handmade cards, decoupaged products, altered art notebooks and journals, vintage goodie packs and many other sweet surprises.
Garrett, the owner of InedibleGlass told us this about his journey into glasswork and Etsy. “I started lampworking when I was attending college in around 2001. A friend of mine was taking a class at the college and it intrigued me. So, being the ambitious person I am, I went for it. Without ever even trying lampworking, I went out and bought everything I needed to get started. I’m completely self taught and enjoy the challenge that lampworking has to offer. No matter how many times I do something, each time is it’s own experience with it’s own unique set of difficulties. My work space has been everywhere from my parent’s back patio, to my kitchen table in my apartment, to the garage, and now in a proper studio I’ve set up in a spare bedroom.”
“At home I only work with boro, but at work I work with quartz. As a profession I am a glass blower for a company that makes metal halide lighting for the stage, movie and entertainment industries. I suppose it would be considered “scientific glass blowing.” It’s a whole world apart from the artistic lampworking.”
“I’m still very new to etsy. I was goaded to join by my girlfriend (TallGiraffe) who is convinced everyone will love my stuff as much as she does. I hope she’s right.”
We think you’re off to a great start, InedibleGlass!

Heather, the owner of KraftChains, is a busy mother of a sweet little toddler. She started crafting in Junior High with boondoggle lacing making keyrings. She later became interested in beading and began making beaded cell phone charms and keyrings. Heather found herself wanting to do more beading and expanded her talent into earrings, bracelets and necklaces. She loves creating jewelry, especially since it allows her to buy more beads and sterling silver! Heather found Etsy when a group of friends recommended she check it out. She is thankful for the great customers and support from others she has met on Etsy and says “I meet the most wonderful people here!”
Thanks to everyone that played in the contest!
